• Over 700 fatalities occurred from alcohol-related car crashes between 2007 and 2010.
• Between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. following St. Patrick’s Day, almost 70 percent of car fatalities were caused by drunk driving.
• Over 56 percent of Americans plan to celebrate the holiday while consuming some form of alcohol.
• Patrick’s Day is the fourth most popular drinking day of the year behind New Years, Christmas, and the Fourth of July.
• Almost 30 percent of St. Patrick’s Day partygoers plan to celebrate in a bar or restaurant.

Law enforcement encourages celebrating the popular holiday, but only while safe and sober. If you do drink on St. Patrick’s Day, do not get behind the wheel, and do not let anyone you know get in the car with someone who was drinking.  Always find a designated driver for yourself, and if you host a party, make sure there are a sufficient amount of designated drivers.
